Army Emblem

Eugene ("Joe") Porto Treasured son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, Eugene ("Joe") Porto passed on December 1, 2011, after suffering a massive stroke. He died peacefully in his Hillsborough home, overlooking his beloved garden, in which he spent many hours. Even at 90 years of age, Joe was CEO of the family business, NEMCO Electronics Corp., and went to the office every day. Joe was born in Venice, Italy, on April 27, 1921, and arrived in America in 1929 as an American because his father had previously attained citizenship. He enlisted in the Army the day after the attack at Pearl Harbor and proudly served our country during World War II in both the European and Pacific campaigns. He was grateful that he was able to graduate from college because of the G.I. Bill of Rights and used his education and brilliant mind to the fullest as an electrical engineer, designing many of the original tubes used in TV's during the 1950's. He was an outstanding athlete, winning many championships in golf, handball and racquetball. His family and friends were blessed by his generous and loving personality and will miss him immeasurably. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Joe's name to the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA, c/o Lisa van Buskirk, 1450 Rollins Road, Burlingame, 94010, or Mission Hospice at 1670 S. Amphlett Blvd, Suite 300, San Mateo, 94403.
