Obituary

Catherine Jane Clark of San Mateo, CA passed away peacefully at home on November 22, 2019 surrounded in love by her family.
Cathy was born June 29, 1915 in San Jose, California. She was the third child of Walter and Stella Gardner. She was raised on the family's dairy farm with her brothers, Dick, Jack, and Ted. As a young girl she worked on the farm and sold milk and vegetables from her horse drawn cart on the Alameda. She graduated from from San Jose High school. She married Lyle Shattuck and had one daughter Barbara Jane. During these years Cathy helped with the war effort by working on the assembly of airplanes. After divorcing Lyle she moved to Berkeley. She taught knitting at Hinks department store in Oakland and eventually took a job at Western Die Company as a Machinist and PBX operator. It was here where she got the nickname "Boots" because she wore army boots to work every day. A few years later she met her second husband William Irwin, they had one daughter Stephanie Kay. They moved to Belmont,
California. Cathy was very involved in the PTA and community efforts. During their time together, she learned how to play golf and play bridge. They moved to New Jersey for 4 years. She hosted many gourmet dinners and enjoyed the four seasons. They moved back to California and settled in to San Mateo. After William's untimely passing, she continued exploring her many passions and interests, she became very self reliant. Eventually she struck up a friendship with her neighbor, Ralph Clark who lived down the street and was also a widower. They married in Sun Valley, Idaho on Valentines Day. Ralph was the love of her life. Together they traveled the world. They joined the Peninsula Golf and Country and became avid golfers. Cathy did flower arranging for the Club and belonged to their bridge and dominos group. Some of her hobbies include knitting, crocheting, sewing, painting, cooking, baking, gardening, reading, and entering projects in the County Fair. She enjoyed watching and supporting the Bay Area sports teams. Cathy took pride in being a homemaker, there was no job that she wouldn't tackle. Cathy lived a full and varied life in her 104 years. She had a passion for everything she did and was never afraid of a challenge. Family was always first and foremost. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughters Barbara Hager-Paulsen (Richard Paulsen, deceased & Calton Hager, deceased), Stephanie Carter (Phil). Grandchildren Brian Hager-Many (Cherie), Kevin Hager (Nicole), Christopher Carter, and Kelly Carter. Great grandchildren Brenden Hager (Lily), Tierney Locklin (Sean), Taylor Hager (Lauren), and Lexi Hager-Many. Great Great Grandson Liam. Niece Joanne Hersch (Bob) and nephews Thomas Gardner (Sue), Rodney Gardner (Brenda), and Creig Gardner.
A funeral service will be held at Crosby -N. Gray & Co. Funeral Home in Burlingame, CA at 11:00am on Friday, December 6th, 2019. Burial immediately following at Skylawn Memorial Park.
