Tribute & Message From The Family

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Serge Eric Coutant, Jr. on August 18, 2020. He was born on October 18, 1958, in Orle'ons, France, and immigrated to the United States in 1959 with his dad, Serge Senior, mom, Adelaide (Pysalski), and sister Sylvie. Serge spent the balance of his life residing in Burlingame, California

He is predeceased by his dad Serge Senior and his sister Sylvie; and his mother-in-law Frances Maxoutopoulis. He is survived by his loving wife Karen (Maxoutopoulis); mom, Adelaide; brother Michael (Tanis) niece/Rachel and nephew/Brian; uncle Stephan Pysalski, aunt Marcel Pyalski, cousin France. Serge is also survived by his father-in-law Steve Maxoutopoulis (Georgine); brothers and sisters-in-law Diane Karcich (Alan), Steve (Stephanie), John (Laurie), Jeff (Terri) and many nieces and nephews who will all miss him dearly.

He was a deeply loved and adored husband, son, son-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and cousin who lived a beautiful life. His life was cut short because of several recent health issues which resulted in his passing at the young age of 61. Serge and Karen shared a very loving relationship for 25 years. She will miss her loving husband, his giving spirit, friendliness to all, and his love of animals. Michael, Serge's younger brother, always appreciated his constant protection over their active younger years, their shared fun times together, especially Serge's uncanny sense of humor – he always had people laughing.

Serge attended St. Catherine's Catholic school in Burlingame, CA. He then attended Serra High School in San Mateo. Serge had a dream of becoming a firefighter so continued his education at the College of San Mateo and earned his fire science degree. As time moved forward Serge decided to use his technology skills and became an IT consultant at UCSF for over ten years. He thoroughly enjoyed his IT position making many contributions throughout his career. Serge loved watching and attending the SF Giants and SF 49er games. He was also a huge fan of Elvis Presley.

Serge always made everyone feel so welcome, special, and loved. He would always be ready to join in with family games at celebrations . . .he even was crowned with the nickname 'Fernando' which created many smiles and lovingly stayed for years to come! Serge will be remembered for his many lasting friendships and his caring, loving, and giving personality – especially his sparkling and welcoming smile!

Serge will continue to be in our hearts and minds forever!

The family plans to hold a celebration of life at a future date when the pandemic restrictions are lifted.

Please consider making a donation to your local SPCA in Serge's name.

Serge, you left us too soon. I have such great memories. All the Friday night phone calls with Karen and Laurie. The family events. The great stories about Serra High and old weekend nights cruising El Camino, Giant and 49er games. The Fernando character you played always made us laugh. You will be missed. Until we meet again RIP.
