Condolence & Memory Journal

How do we miss Evie a year later? The sad truth is that with most loved ones who pass—we tend to forget. The tribulations of real life. Time seems to scab over the wound of loss for those of us left behind.

But not so with Evie's passing. Laurel and I had this ongoing, daily email conversation with Evie... sharing our loves and passions for animals, nature and well... just stuff... life. SHARING whatever touched each of us or that interested us because we knew that what we liked, Evie would like. She got it. I mean she really understood and knew our souls in a visceral way.

That was pretty much our friendship, which quickly turned into mutual love, even if a long-distance relationship from Florida to Northern California. Miles were nothing when Evie smiled. For sure Evie was greatly loved. We didn't have to be family members or have long histories with Evie & John to love her fully and truly.

What I miss mostly is sharing with Evie. I cannot count the number of times in a week that I see a photo or take one of my own, or that I experience something ... and I immediately think "oh, Evie would have loved this!" She would have.

There are not many people in life who you meet by happenstance, and they stay with you forever, making a little corner for themselves in your heart. Evie was one of those rare gifts—a person who lives in your heart. She isn't a was, Evie is an 'is' because her spirit never died... I think of her all the time. And in those thoughts we all have of her, Evie has gained immortality.

Evie was a one of a kind. She had a delightful spirit and a loving heart that shined. She was a stellar example of goodness. Her spirit will be with us forever.

Love is of God. God is eternal; therefore, Evie, who is all love, lives on forever. All who knew her were blessed by her love and compassion that she had for everyone and everything.

So many things could be said about her, but I think these three sum them all up for me:
-She is truly one in a million. (Yes, even now.)
-She is an angel and was in disguise here on earth.
-While here, she was beautiful on the outside, but even more beautiful on the inside.

I selfishly cry buckets of tears for the loss of my very dear friend whom I treasure so much, but then I am so very happy for her and where she is now.

As she continues on her spiritual journey, may God bless her greatly for all she is and all she has done.

It's hard to write of Evie in the past tense. But now, we have to. Evie was an angel so good and pure, how could she possibly be human? That's what she was to me and many others. Evie was this little ray of California sunshine that arrived in my email from the West Coast every day. Her spirit was innocent yet she was anything but naive. How do you describe an angel? I sure don't know but to all she touched, Evie was an angel.
Although the real Evie is now gone, the void she's left behind is very realpalpable. Evie touched us all her lightest of touches remains with us. All I know is that I'm a better person for having had her in my life; blessed she called me her friend. Yes, this was a terrible way to leave us, but we are fortunate for whatever we got of her. (SIGH!) I'm filled with tears again. But I know in my heart where she always touched me, that Evie lives not in the way we'd become used to her, but in a new, more intimate way. Evie lives in our memories. And because of that, Evie is immortal. Evie is remembered.

The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away -
Job 1:21
HE has a new angel, Evie Lockton. How we will miss her!
However, Evie left us a lasting legacy of how to live a life with grace, kindness, and great love towards all people. Thank you Evie for your friendship and we thank the LORD for crossing our paths.

We always loved Evie's kindness and spirit to include everyone in her
life. She was special and we will greatly miss her. She had a twinkle in her eye and found humor in so many things.

Our thoughts go out to her whole family. She loved those three grandsons so much.

I worked for Evie Lockton, and she was a caring and absolutely wonderful person. She was a class act all the way. I am forever grateful for her friendship and how kind and caring she was to me and family.

The world has lost a bright light. Evie lit up whatever room she was in. Her comment that her greatest gift was her friends says it all about her. I first met her as a client and she quickly became a friend. You will be and are already missed, Evie. - Laurel Druce

She was as beautiful inside as she was on the outside. She was a lady and one of a kind. I already miss her gentle personality.
