Tribute & Message From The Family

Message From The Family

Thank you for your support during this difficult time. Please enhance this tribute to Gaylin by adding your memories and photos.

Beloved husband and father, Gaylin Treft, passed away in his home from a sudden heart attack at the age of 81. His final days were filled, as usual, with visits from his loved ones, lots of laughs and good food.

Born in Sioux City, Iowa to John Albert and Lorraine (Strandburg) Treft, he was the fifth child of seven and grew up on a farm. He graduated from Homer High School in Nebraska. In 1958, he married his beloved wife, Karen Ann Holbrook. They moved to California, where they raised three children - Dean (Melissa), Julie Bellomo (Leno) and Diana LeClair (Mike). Gaylin retired at 57 years of age after spending almost 40 years as a plasterer. He and Karen celebrated their 60th anniversary September 27, 2018.

Gaylin worked hard and was an incredible provider. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, whether that meant card games, camping trips, and fun New Years Eve celebrations in the early years or having backyard barbecues more recently. He was a solid friend who could always be counted on to help others with projects - stonework, stucco, fireplace work, gardening, picture hanging. Whatever was needed, he'd be there. He loved the outdoors, his siblings, walking in his neighborhood, watching the planes come in, and being at "the cabin".

He was known for his integrity, humor and quick wit, his love of family, and his way with words.

Gaylin is survived by his devoted wife Karen, his children Dean (Melissa), Julie Bellomo (Leno), Diana LeClair (Mike), his granddaughter Jenna Swanson, his siblings LeRoy Treft (Sharon), Kathleen Fischer and Sharon Bristol (Jeff), his sister-in-laws Donna Treft and Kristine Carlin (Chuck), his brother-in-law Howard Holbrook (Beverly) and many treasured nieces and nephews. He joins his cherished parents and three siblings - Norwin, Wanda Carver, and Merlyn - in heaven.

Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life Open House on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Gayl and Karen's home of 55 years. Please feel free to drop by between the hours of 1:00pm - 4:00pm, to share memories, view pictures, and celebrate his restoration to wholeness as he rests in peace in heaven above.
