Tribute & Message From The Family

Loving husband, father, and morfar

Ove Germund Anderson, Sept. 9, 1949 - May 31, 2019, born in Ă–stersund, Sweden, emigrated to San Mateo County in 1959, lost a well-fought, three-and-a-half-year battle, surrounded by loved ones. Survived by his wife and best friend Mary Ann of 48 years, daughter Lydia, son-in-law Grant, granddaughters Amelia and Penelope, and sister Katy. He was a beloved uncle, brother-in-law, and friend. Ove understood the importance of pausing to celebrate the accomplishments and achievements of all the loved ones in this circle.

He started his career as a baggage handler and ended it as a VP of a major international logistics company, enjoying the camaraderie of many wonderful friends and co-workers, traveling all over the globe along the way. He spent many years playing music with the New Beginnings band, who affectionately introduced him as their "Swedish import."

Ove enjoyed nature, photography, biking, hiking, skiing, golf, home projects, music, watching his granddaughters play softball and soccer, the Golden State Warriors and San Francisco Giants, technology, traveling, salty licorice, jigsaw puzzles, traditions, adventures, kayaking, animals, his feline friend Mia (who wouldn't leave his side), documentaries, politics, concerts, good conversation, history, traveling, whiskey, gardening, and the wonders of space. The man loved life.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Stanford Medicine Cancer Discovery Fund or the non-profit Mission Hospice & Home Care.
Ove's celebration of life will be Friday, June 14th at 6:30 p.m. at Poplar Creek Golf Course at Coyote Point,

Condolence & Memory Journal

You lived a good and whole life, Ove! I'll never forget our band days together in the "Crystal Fountain" back in the late 1960s. Some day, we'll jam again in the big bandstand up above the clouds!

I am sending my most heartfelt condolences to Ove's family. "A Man Called Ove", who loved his Saabs. Ove and I became good friends during our time at LEP where we worked together for many years. In the mid-90's our professional lives took different paths and we spoke less frequently. However, about 8 years ago when Ove had just recently retired, I was in San Francisco on business where I met another old co-worker from Manila, Gil Cruz. On a whim, I called Ove to see if he had any interest in seeing two old buddies from the past. Ove, being Ove, he did not hesitate for a second and we had a wonderful dinner and then closed out the night in an Irish pub in Ove's home town of Burlingame. Ove was one of the kindest, most tolerant, generous and joyful men I have ever met. Goodbye old friend and hope to see you on the other side.
